Mexico: Yaqui Valley shines for its actions against HLB
The president of the Yaqui Valley Citrus Association, Hector Navarro Roqueñí, said that the Yaqui Valley had been recognized as a cornerstone for the good health actions it performs against the Huanglongbing disease; actions led by the local board of Plant Protection in the Yaqui Valley, in coordination with citrus producers.
Navarro Roqueñí said the state was free from the disease and that other areas of the country were attacking the disease very well. The psyllid carrying the disease is present, but not the yellow dragon disease, thanks to the good deeds of control. The president of the Yaqui Valley Citrus Association said that they performed applications in the months of February and October, plus other dates, to control the disease.
It's worth noting that for Mexico, the HLB is the most serious threat to the nearly 550,000 acres of citrus established in 23 states. As such, the local board of Plant Protection in the Yaqui Valley in coordination with citrus growers, has been given the task of taking insecticide applications in the months already mentioned, when the insect is dormant, to control the disease.
