''Organic'' products travel thousands of kilometres to France

Organic produce sales increased by 9% in 2013. French farmers can't always fulfil the growing demand and supermarkets have to turn to imports.

In some supermarkets at the moment Argentine apples, Turkish lentils and Spanish tomatoes can be found. ''Organic'' produce is meant to save the environment - is it the case for a fruit that has travelled thousands of kilometres?

A lot of clients don't think about where the fruit and vegetables come from, for them ''organic'' means ''healthier''. The advantage of organic produce is that it uses methods that respect the environment.

Some companies make enormous efforts to attract clients and the organic sector sometimes just becomes a marketing strategy.
