Increasing supply of German raspberries

The start of the summer weather and the increased demand around Pentecost helped the raspberry sales in Germany. Now the main harvesting phase is about to start in the early German cultivation areas, reports the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) on its website.
Until last weekend the German supply mainly went through direct trade and wholesalers. In the south-west of Germany, where the climate is especially favourable, the harvest amounts in week 24 will grow more strongly. However, the tropical weather conditions, mainly at the start of the week, are challenging the growers in their attempts to retain quality.

At the wholesalers, mainly in southern Germany, the cheaper German wares are now pushing out the import supply. But due to the clearly growing supply, people have to look for strengthened sales channels through the food trade. But there are some difficulties with this at the moment due to the still strong presence of imports from Spain, which arrive in the supermarkets for low prices. The trade is prepared to pay certain extras for German wares, but despite this the yields for the growers this season so far are sobering.
