US (CA): Peach, nectarine seasons continue with early pace

The early start to the season that was established at the beginning of California's stonefruit harvest has been maintained. While the timing of the season continues to be ahead of last season, the rest of the season appears to be on par with other years.

“Things are still early,” said Jeff Simonian of Simonian Fruit Company. “We're still seven to 10 days ahead of last season, but, for the most part, we're at status quo.” Pricing has been good for both peaches and nectarines, with larger-sized fruit reaching the high 20s and prices for smaller fruit hovering around the high teens.

“The season harvested up to 14 days earlier than last season,” added Jeannine Martin, director of sales for Giumarra of Reedley. “The trend continues with varieties harvesting 8 to 12 days ahead of last year.”
