INAO (National Institute of Origin and Quality)

French Menton lemons soon to receive PGI approval

The Menton lemon will soon be protected all over the EU thanks to a PGI approved by the INAO (National Institute of Origin and Quality).

The Menton lemon is used by cooks for it's high quality, juice and perfumed zest.

The fruit is grown in the Alpes Maritimes where a fair is organised in it's honour every February.

The PGI means that producers in this area will be the only ones to use the name Menton lemon and stops other producers using it if they are not produced in the recognised production zone.

According to the last production figures from 2011, 100 tons of Menton lemons were produced.
