Netherlands: Growing vegetables and living in new development project “Geworteld Wonen”

Living in Holland’s busiest urban area and still growing your own food. Fifty households will be doing exactly that in an upcoming project called "Geworteld Wonen” (“Rooted Living”). Inbo and Beyond Now are set to start construction on the site of a former rural residence later this year.

Green, healthy, sustainable and fun
Geworteld Wonen means living on an estate in the middle of the Randstad, while growing your own vegetables. The designated site in RijswijkBuiten will hold fifty homes, a communal barn and plenty of space for kitchen gardens. The first phase consists of seven courtyard houses and ten farmhouses. Prices range from 200,000 Euro to 360,000 Euro. A few are still available.

Geworteld Wonen is developed in the sphere of collective private commissions. This means that the residents themselves decide how the houses should look, which sustainability measures are important, and how the public space is managed.
