Butterkin squash to début in U.S. this fall

Butterkin, a flavourful new variety of winter squash, will be making an appearance at retail this fall.

Butterkin is positioned to be a premium and profitable squash and will be supported at retail with an extensive marketing program, which includes a PLU sticker, point of sale signage, public relations outreach and social media support. Growers and retailers can learn more about Butterkin at www.butterkinsquash.com.

"We are always looking for new varieties that will resonate with our customers and their consumers and we think Butterkin will be really well received by all. This new winter squash has a great flavour and is an improvement over other winter squash and pumpkins." said Dean Cotton, Vegetable Seed Business Manager at Seedway LLC.

Butterkin was developed by Hybrid Seeds in New Zealand for its distinctive sweet and buttery flavour and texture. It measures about 6-to-7.5 inches in diameter and weighs between 2-to-4 pounds.

SEEDWAY, LLC is the exclusive marketer and seller of Butterkin in the U.S. and Canada. Butterkin was also recently assigned the PLU #3441.

Arriving just in time for fall celebrations, the flavourful Butterkin will be available in the northeast part of the U.S. Supplies are expected to last through November.
