Rolf Weber, Global Producers:

"Best Costa Rican melon season since 2002"

The Costa Rican melon season is coming to an end. Rolf Weber of Global Producers from Venlo sums it up. "We have imported 1,200 containers of melons, Cantaloupe, Galia, watermelons and yellow melons." The producer says that the productivity was around 15% lower than in previous years and that the season is characterised by a longer production cycle and a delay in some fields and volumes at the end of the season. "On the other hand, we haven't been bothered by rain or diseases. This means that we haven't had to fight quality problems."

The sales market has been excellent. The last volumes with lower prices haven't lowered the average," says Rolf enthusiastically. "As a result of the above mentioned factors we have realised the best season since 2002. We are laying the finishing touches to the watermelon sales this week and are ending the last yellow and Cantaloupe melons in week 21. The season for other varieties has already ended."
