China: Jinzhou cherry producers using internet to attract other regions

Dalian cherries are mostly sold locally and is enough for the annual demand of the local market. However, Jinzhou County has been planning to sell its cherries outside Dalian city and to other provinces.

Since 2007, the new district of Jinzhou has been trying to build its brand of Jinzhou Cherries. They have successfully built a stable local market for their 100,000 acres of Jinzhou cherries. Now they are planning to market to other cities.

Jinzhou District Tourism Bureau reports that they want to position the Jinzhou cherry as a high-end product. Their aim is to increase the income of cherry farmers. They are confident of the quality of the cherry and that they will be able to manage the sales and distribution. They plan to distribute the cherries in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Changsha.

Their main target is to use online shopping websites such as Taobao as the marketing platform for the distribution of the cherries. Currently the cherries costs around 60 yuan per half kilo plus delivery costs.
