Good start for Italian fruit and veg exports

According to Fruitimprese, 2014 started well for Italian trade. Data concerning January 2014 shows that there has been an increase both in terms of volume and value. The final balance is of €141 million, 1.6% more than January 2013.

In January 2014, Italy exported around 340,000 tons of produce (+10%) for a total value of €375 million (+5%).

Exports of citrus fruit (+0.9%), vegetables (+6.7%), fresh fruit (+14.3%) and dried fruit (+34.6%) increased and the sign was positive also in terms of value, except for citrus fruit (-11%).

As regards imports, Italy bought around 250,000 tons of produce for a total value of €233 million.

Imports of fresh fruit (+8.9%), dried fruit (+50.5%) and tropical fruit (+9.3%) increased, whereas the sign was negative for vegetables (-2.4%) and citrus fruit (-14.4%). In terms of value, the sign was positive for all sectors except vegetables (-10.1%) and citrus fruit (-21.8%).
