The warm winter weather made for less demand. "This year all productions have come into their own. There is a big harvest, that has resulted in a surplus on the market and a falling price. At the moment the selling price is between 15 and 20 cents, but if it is a few cents more or less, it doesn't really matter. It is not enough.
Frank expects that this dramatic year will have consequences for the coming season. "I expect a reduction in acreage, because nobody can grow leeks for this money. But the big question is how big this reduction will be. Our company has focused purely on cultivating and packing leeks and for us this year will have no consequence."
