Monoprix prepares to accept Bitcoin payments

Patrick Oualid, Monoprix's e-commerce Director announced on Wednesday that they would be prepared to accept bitcoin payments by the end of the year.

''At Monoprix, many of us believe in it, it is in our (pioneering) DNA'' declared Mr Oualid who claimed that bit coin payments could be accepted 'possibly by the end of 2014'. ''Technically it doesn't seem to be difficult to integrate, the priority will be the site, but we always tackle web and mobile simultaneously. The shops will undoubtedly be concerned as well.''

Bitcoin is a virtual money which for the time being is only used in France on a few small internet sites. Monoprix could become the first large company to use it in France.

Mr Oualid says that not believing in the advantages of Bitcoin transactions would be an ''error'', however he accepts that it is ''far too early to hope for a significant turnover''.

He says that even though Bitcoin may not bring hard cash sales, it does not matter. It will strengthen their experience and give them an advantage over other companies who will wait 3-5 years before realising that they are not up to date.
