Italy: Amazon Fresh now in Europe

In Italy, the home delivery service is provided only by a few retailers and only in the biggest cities. The produce is selected online and, if available, it is delivered on the day and time chosen.

Things are different in the US, Germany and UK, where this service is well-known and it is now also provided by Amazon. After testing the solution in Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco, the company has decided to try it out in the UK and in Germany, and later in Austria and France. Italy has not been mentioned yet.

How it works
After one month free, the service will cost around €200 per year. In order to receive their shopping by dinnertime, users must choose the products by 10 am, otherwise the orders will be delivered the following morning. Delivery is free of charge for orders over £25, alternatively, one can choose Amazon Prime.

In addition to the typical retail assortment - there are over 500,000 products - also, ready-to-eat meals are available and cooked by local restaurants.

Pros
Amazon can count on its well-known brand, competitive prices, well-oiled logistics and additional services such as the "restaurant dinner".

Cons
The delivery method is not great as containers only have a set temperature which makes managing fresh produce a little tricky. In addition, the cost of the subscription could put people off and Amazon Fresh will have to adapt to new products and comply with the stricter European regulations.
