Ecuador sells bananas with double organic and fair trade certifications in Sweden

Starting March 24, 2014, Ecuadorian bananas are being marketed with double organic and fair trade certifications in the larger grocery chains in Sweden: 7-eleven and PresbyrÄn.

With 190 and 325 stores, respectively, 7-eleven and PresbyrÄn are part of the Norwegian conglomerate Reitan, which is present across the Baltic and Scandinavian region.

The Ecuadorian bananas come from the Cerro Azul Producers Cooperative and are distributed in Sweden by Banan-Kompaniet .

PRO ECUADOR, via its Commercial Office in Stockholm, has been working with small banana producers to strengthen and expand their presence in the Nordic country.

This week, April 7 to 12, some members of the Banana Consortium will visit Sweden in order to promote sales of Fairtrade bananas in that market.

The activity will be coordinated between Fairtrade Sweden and the Commercial Bureau. The group plans to visit different companies, supermarkets and strategic points, including a visit to the town of Eskilstuna, winner of the Fairtrade City 2013- Fair Trade Annual Award.
