Mexico: Oxxo to hit 20,000 shop mark in 2022

Mexico's leading convenience store chain, Oxxo, could hit the 20,000 shop mark by 2022, as it currently averages 1,000 new shop openings per year, although the first saturation signs would start being observed from 2017, when the 15,000 mark is expected to be reached.

At that point, when the chain's organic growth could have a negative impact on the shops already in operation, the chain would be forced to slow its expansion rate down.

In any case, it is worth noting that Oxxo feels quite capable of carrying out its expansion plans, as the 20,000 shop target is perceived as a feasible goal within the limits of the company's potential.

According to Carlos González, Trading Analysis director at Monex, the market still has a high absorption capacity, thus offering plenty of room to continue growing.
