Guatemala: Fresh, dehydrated and frozen fruit exports on the rise

Fresh, dehydrated and frozen fruit exports (excluding bananas) increased during January 2014 by around 204.8% and became the country's third most marketed product category overseas.

According to data provided by the Bank of Guatemala (Banguat), fresh, dehydrated and frozen fruit sales generated $57.3 million; around $38.5 million more than in January 2013.

The category surpassed bananas, which generated $45.9 million, and coffee, which reported $43.6 million in sales during the same month.

Ricardo Santa Cruz, director of the Agricultural Division of Guatemala's Exporters Association (Agexport), pointed out that fruit consumption levels have increased worldwide, and that the main destinations for Guatemalan exporters are the United States and Europe.
