Hans Derks, Harvest House:

"Bad start for pepper season"

The Dutch pepper season is off to a bad start. "Spain is now coming slowly to the end, but it can't come fast enough for the Dutch market," said sales manager Hans Derks from Harvest House. The first European supermarkets have already changed over to Dutch peppers."

"For a further recovery in prices, we have to wait for Israel and Spain to leave the market. Last year the Russian market started nicely on time, as they stepped in when there was plenty of volume, and it would be lovely if that happened again," continued Hans. "Prices are pretty average just now at around €1.50 per kg which is €0.75 to €1.00 per kg below last year."
