German joint venture designs productive high tech nano greenhouse of 0.14 m²
One of the major problems with the construction says Novavert´s Niclas Heescher was to get the mini-equipment for the greenhouse, especially the screening. Novavert invested some big money into extra small machines and scissors to be able to produce these kinds of cloth.
Prof Dr. Witzmann's wife April, who is also involved, originates from New York: “The greenhouses are so productive but small – the land-use is so effective it is amazing. I have already bought 0.14 m² of land in downtown NYC for an urban production, enough land for the construction of 20,140,104 greenhouses.
Now a prototype of a nano-greenhouse has been erected completely made out of PLA, an eco-friendly plastic material. Thus the greenhouses are not only 100% green but they can also be eaten together with crop grown inside. Niclas Heescher: “The prototype was a bit too crunchy due to the heavy beams we used but the new adapted Venlo-Design we are going to use next together with butter lettuce will be a healthy joy in the mouth."
Next step will be getting the work permit from NYC authorities for the use of trained ants to erect and work inside the greenhouses. A mixed team with Mexican, Germans and Dutch ants has proven to deliver the best results so far.
