Lidl wishes to expand German workforce

Over the next few years, discount supermarket chain Lidl wish to expand the amount of personnel in their Germany stores, reports German website Focus.de. In the last ten years the average amount of employees in the 3300 German branches has risen from 11 to 17, Thomas Augst, director of Lidl Germany, said last Tuesday in Neckarsulm, "We are confident that the trend will continue." Throughout Lidl Germany there are presently 70,000 employees.

Putting more staff in their branches is quite exceptional for the business. In general the trade have been saving on personnel, explained a spokesman for trade union Verdi.
