GlobalG.A.P's IFA standard prioritises microbial risk control

At the the GlobalG.A.P News Conference during Fruit Logistica 2014, members announced that one of the most important parts of the renewed version of their Integrated Farm Assurance Standard, would be the strengthening of risk control for fruit and vegetables. This can be read on the German website Fruchthandel.de.

GlobalG.A.P. board member Hugh Mowat said: "Food safety has always been a main concern of the GlobalG.A.P. standard, and since their beginnings in 1996 GlobalG.A.P. have, without a doubt, contributed enormously to the welfare of consumers."

Due to growing concerns over food safety from microbial contamination GlobalG.A.P. will now pro-actively expand their existing controls. Any changes will be on a scientific basis, and the producers will ensure reliable guidelines are made available.
