Promising Vietnamese banana exportation

Banana trees make up 19% of the total area of fruit trees in Vietnam. 1.4 million tons are produced per year, but this does not fulfil the growing overseas demand.

The Vietnamese banana is exported across many markets such as Japan, Great Britain, Russia, Ukraine, China, Singapore, Republic of Korea…

However the lack of raw materials, technology and conservation and transportation techniques affect the quality and look of the bananas. Due to price instability, many farmers are pulling up their banana trees to replace them with a more profitable fruit tree.

Global demand is rising and will reach $4.6 billion per year in the near future.

For Vietnam to develop this sector in a sustainable way, they need to make sure there are enough plantation areas and improve workers living conditions.
