Almost 185 million Euro in revenue

Spain: CASI sold 219,000 tonnes of tomatoes during 2012/2013 campaign

CASI's president, José María Andújar, announced that "the 2012/2013 campaign has been excellent in terms of tomato volumes marketed, increased loyalty of large distribution chains and revenue generated by the associates." A total of 219 tonnes of tomatoes were sold, generating almost 185 million Euro. The average price per kilo stood at 0.61 Euro.

Another important aspect is the boost given to the new marketing model; a mixed model between direct sales and auctions, which has led to over 75 million kilos of tomatoes being sold directly. The president says that "this is one of the key factors of our great financial results. Nowadays, Carrefour, Alcampo, Edeka, BriedronKa, Máxima, Rimi, Consum, ICA, Everfresh and Tesco, among others, praise us for the quality of our tomatoes, the professional standards used in sorting and the punctuality of the shipments. 80% of tomatoes and other horticultural products are sold by these chains, which offer better prices and are less likely not to pay."

According to Andújar, some of the achievements of the 2012/2013 campaign include "the mixed auctions/direct sales model, the implementation of organic control on 100% of the acreage, the introduction of new tomato varieties, the re-design of the packaging, the opening of new markets and the inauguration of CASI's new facilities (CASI Airport)."

Andújar says that "our greatest asset are our growers; true specialists in tomato cultivation, whose knowledge has passed from generation to generation. They are the reason behind the natural flavour of CASI's tomatoes."
