Seven Seas bringing South African produce to the world

For over a decade, Seven Seas, a leading distributor of fresh fruit from South Africa, has been shipping their fresh produce to all of the major markets around the world.

“South Africa is one of the leading producers of fresh fruit globally,” said Greg Reinauer, President of Seven Seas. “South Africa therefore plays an important role for the Tom Lange group in terms of supplying our global produce network with product to satisfy the needs of our customers.” Tom Lange recognized the potential in South Africa back in 2001, which is when the company set up Seven Seas to take advantage of the bountiful produce being grown there. While Tom Lange retains a focus on North America, Seven Seas has a more global focus.

“The Seven Seas office in South Africa supplies product to its fellow Seven Seas offices as well as direct customers in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, the Far East, the Middle East, Africa and North America,” said Reinauer. “The entire organization is aligning to focus on global supply chains.” With the prominent role their South African office has in supplying their customers, he added that they need to be careful that local conditions don't adversely affect their ability to meet the needs of markets throughout the world, and they're constantly working to have a larger global presence in order to better meet those needs.

“We believe strongly in effectively marrying the type of production dynamic in South Africa with the unique needs of each export market from season to season in order to come up with a marketing strategy which maximizes the return on the product we export,” said Reinauer. “We are continually looking for suitable opportunities to expand our presence in other countries with new offices where such an investment fits in with our vision of being a truly global produce network.”
