Lornsen's long career in fresh producebegan over 50 years ago in Munich. After 17 years in the business, he decidedto strike out on his own and began travelling to former Eastern Europe to get hisimport business off the ground. He focused on taking tomatoes from Poland,Bulgaria, Romania and Albania and transporting them to Scandinavian countriesby plane, train and truck. After bolstering supplies with tomatoes from theCanary Islands.
Following independence of the Eastern block countries Lornsen developed imports from the Canary Islands and there are few tomatoes from there which Lornsen has not had something to do with In Denmark Pepino dominates the tomato imports from the Canary Islands. A couple of years ago Poland relaunched supplies to Denmark and we can still find Polish tomatoes in supermarkets in the Canary Islands %-6 years ago Egypt started to export cherry tomatoes to Denmark which are mainly distributed through Pepino fruit to northern Europe, especially Denmark and England.
Pepino now also imports pineapples fromGhana and cherry tomatoes from Egypt, and Lornsen, at the age of 75, is asambitious as ever, constantly looking for new opportunities to expand hisproduct line.
