Colombia: Antioquia led banana exports in January
Not including oil, Antioquia accounted for 23.1% of foreign sales in the month of January. Despite a 13.9% drop in exports, when compared to the same month in 2013, Antioquia is Colombia's leading department in exports. The department's main export is bananas. Following Antioquia are Cesar (18.8%) and Bogotá (9.9%).
Agro exports decreased 1.9%, as there were fewer coffee (20.4%) and cattle transactions (92.3 %). The main destinations for Colombian products in January were the United States (26.6%), India (12.2%) and China (11.4%).
Results in 2013
Not including oil, Antioquia, Cesar and Bogotá were the regions that exported the most in 2013. Antioquia's share amounted to 22.1%, Cesar's to 13.9 %, and Bogota's to 12 %. By value, the leading department exported U.S. $5,829.4 million. José Roberto Concha, director of Icesi, explained that Antioquia led shipments abroad thanks to their banana exports through the Port of Uraba.
