Mexico: Greenhouse producers from Oaxaca are Walmart's Social Suppliers of the Year

Mexico's and Central America's Walmart recognized PROMEX as the Social Supplier of the Year as it had helped 56 pumpkin producers in the region of Oaxaca to market their products and improve the community's living conditions.

During 2013, thanks to the sales of their crops to Walmart Mexico and Walmart Central America, these producers from Oaxacan increased their annual income by 100% and generated 280 jobs.

For the last three years, the producers supported by PROMEX and financed by the Mexico's Walmart Foundation have participated in training programs and made great progress in production, post-harvest management, financial and administrative techniques.

La Rosita and El Manantial, which markets organic oregano and wool gloves, as well as Amaranto de Mesoamerica para el Mundo, which is dedicated to the manufacturing of amaranth, were also among the finalists for the Social Supplier Recognition Award.

Mexico's Walmart Foundation develops projects to help small farmers living in poverty.

Currently, the Foundation supports 29 productive farming and manufacturing projects in the poor regions of 14 states.
