Lidl to increase investment in Spain by 80%

The distribution company Lidl plans to invest 180 million Euro in Spain in 2014; 80% more than in 2012. The company's combined expenditure in 2013 and 2014 will be of 340 million, reaching an accumulated investment of 1,000 million Euro since 2008.

Lidl Supermarkets shows its commitment to continue growing in Spain. Part of the investment will be used to finish the construction of a logistics platform in the municipality of Lorquí, Murcia, which will be the chain's ninth in Spain and is expected to be ready next autumn.

Twenty new shops are also expected to be opened in 2014, of which five are already in operation, in Alhaurín de la Torre (Malaga), Murcia, Majorca, L'Hospitalet de l'Infant (Tarragona) and Cordoba.

Furthermore, the modernisation and refurbishment of the already existing shops is also underway, as of 2011, with the goal of adjusting them to the company's new image and making them more energetically efficient.

Thanks to the inauguration of Murcia's logistics platform and the opening of new shops and office vacancies, Lidl expects to create around 400 jobs in 2014, reaching a total of 10,000 employees in Spain.
