Opportunities for Uruguayan citrus in Chinese market

The commercial manager of Citricola Salteña, Cesar Caputto, said it would be very important to place their citrus in the Chinese market as well as in other Asian countries.

Caputto said that, after the opening of the U.S. market, the way was paved and other doors were opening, and he recalled that, "we've already sold to Indonesia and the Philippines."

Citricola Salteña, which participated in the first exports to the United States, is preparing a batch to export to that destination in April.

The businessman stressed that there was a possibility of placing citrus in China, the Middle East and Indonesia, where "the protocol has changed so we have to adapt."

Caputto, who attended this month's Fruit Logistica in Berlin, said it's always important to be in the fair, adding that this year's market expectation are good because "it's no big or small. It's normal. "

Regarding the season that will be starting in a month, the commercial manager said that, "production will increase between 10 and 15% over the next year."
