Van Ravenswaaij wants faster cooling for Ivory Coast
An Ivorian partner of Van Ravenswaaij created a cold room of 15x16x4 meters, where 24 pallets each holding 900 kg of produce could be cooled from a room temperature of +25°C to +5°C. The cooling installation consists of a low energy Bitzer condensing unit with a 38,500 Watt capacity and an evaporating temperature of -/-3 °C. If refrigerant is used for R507 the compressor is attached to three Goedhart evaporators.
Flat coolers
For the purpose of cooling Nijssen provided three sets of one sided blowing coolers in order to create good air circulation along the 15 meter long side. The decision for flat coolers was to ensure that there was as much headroom as possible for product storage.
Partially assembled
To make installation simpler, the Nijssen team partially assembled the delivered components. For the electrical installation Nijssen provided a complete building package together with the necessary components, electrical wiring, maintenance switches, ducts and fittings for the installation. Also the control panel and all the pipework was supplied.
The installation has now been placed in the Ivory Coast
Rapid cooling is crucial
The investment by Van Ravenswaaij will improve product quality. An investigation by Wageningen UR recently confirmed that temperature control and a closed cooling circuits are the most important instruments to ensure that the starting quality of fruit and vegetables is kept as long as possible. Quickly cooling after an African harvest is very important and economically paramount. Cooling just one hour sooner extends the shelf life by one day.
