The company's representatives stated that the Mollar variety is "their flagship product and the most relevant one," but that they also work with other varieties.
The Mollar is traditional in the area and has been produced for thousands of years. We are about to obtain the Protected Designation of Origin after a process that has lasted for years," informed Agulló.
"The Mollar is grown almost exclusively in the area of Elche. Attempts have been made to expand to other areas, although the results have been negative, as neither the soil nor the weather conditions are the same," said Cerdán.
The variety's most noteworthy characteristic are its sweetness "and the almost imperceptible seeds," explained Cerdán. "They also differ in colour to other pomegranates."
"We are also already planting other varieties that are popular in other countries, such as the Wonderful, the Smith and the Acco.”
The main reason for this is the wish to extend the campaign, although the Mollar will continue to be the flagship product.
Representatives of the firm said that they would like to find more contacts in the southern hemisphere, especially Chile and Peru, to supply them with quality pomegranates during the counter season.
