Germany: Organic markets continued growth

The German organic market is continuing to grow reports German website Fruchthandel.de. In 2013 German households spent a total of 7.55 billion Euro on organic food and beverages. That is 7% more than in 2012 when 7.04 billion Euro was spent.

The figures have been calculated on estimates by market experts from the organic industry, based on data from GfK market research companies, Nielson, Biovista and Klaus Braun Communication Consultancy. The organic market has grown as strongly in 2013 as in 2012. "Consumers are continuing to buy products which are organic, and sustainably produced and also appreciate the quality and taste of these products. The turnover increase of 7% shows that the German organic sector has huge potential. Sales of organic produce remains successful and show good future prospects," said former minister for agriculture Hans-Peter Friedrich, prior to the BioFach fair in Nuremberg.
