Mexico to market 80,000 tonnes of apples

Following the negotiations between apple producers and the government, about 80,000 tons of apples may be marketed in the centre and south of the country. This greatly benefits producers as they were lacking a market for their product.

Regarding this, Governor César Duarte said the Ministry of Economy had given answer to the requests by the State Government and producers. Additionally, he said, it had arranged for DICONSA to transport the apples, so that the producers wouldn't have to pay for the freight of the 80,000 tons of apples.

He added that they had achieved a trade agreement with the commercial chains of the central and southern regions, where the apples from Chihuahua may now be sold. In addition, he said, they were asking the federal government more vigilance in customs to prevent the apple from the U.S. from illegally entering the country and competing unfairly with the apple from Chihuahua.
