AgrupaEjido expands organic catalogue to meet increasing demand

Demand for organic products keeps increasing in Spain and the rest of Europe, with Germany still as their largest market, after almost 60% of Germans said to consume them at the 2013 “Oekobarometer”.

This past weekend, Germany became the world's best showcase for organic products with BIOFACH, in Nuremberg; the leading fair devoted 100% to organic food products. Just like every year, a delegation from AgrupaEjido, led by the director of its organic department, Juan Cano, attended the event with the goal of promoting the company's range of organic products and meeting with clients and potential new contacts in Germany and northern Europe.

New products in the catalogue
AgrupaEjido entered the organic market last year with products such as courgettes, tomatoes, melons and watermelons.

For this season, the catalogue and the periods of availability have been considerably expanded. At the moment, the company supplies courgettes, Almeria cucumbers, red and yellow bell peppers, Italian red peppers, vine and cherry tomatoes and aubergines, and in the spring, melons and watermelons will once again be available.

At this stage of the season, AE has increased its sales volume in the organic segment, reaching one million kilos. The prospect is to finish the campaign with over two and a half million kilos sold. The most popular products so far in terms of sales have been cucumbers, courgettes and aubergines.

This range of 100% organic vegetables represents one of AE's major commitments for the future. As explained by the firm's marketing director, Juan Cano, "we are in no hurry to grow; our goal is to establish solid foundations to provide our organic products with a great reputation amongst our clients and final consumers." AgrupaEjido's organic brand is AllSun and is distributed in Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and France.

The company, founded in 1979, has reached an accumulated growth of 10% so far this campaign, and according to Cano, "prospects are good for both the organic and conventional ranges." For years, AgrupaEjido has been applying integrated organic control techniques on its more than 1,300 hectares, which are certified by Global G.A.P. Last year, the firm sold 110 million kilos of vegetables, reaching a turnover of 90 million Euro.
