Fruit Logistica 2014, Hall .2 - Stand B-14 (Sicily area)

Italy: Ispica carrots represent 70% of Az. Agr. Biologica Milana Giovanni's turnover

"We have decided to promote Ispica new carrots, which are organic and are fresh 6 months a year," explains Daniela Milana from the Milana Giovanni Organic commercial farm.

"The most important thing for those growing organic produce is to believe in them. This is our policy and we have been in business for over 22 years."

The strength of the company derives from the fact that production, processing, sales and packaging are carried out in the same day and in the same place.
The flagship of the company are organic new carrots, which it has grown since the 1960s. The company was established by Salvatore Milana and is currently managed by Giovanni and Salvatore Milana (owner and agronomist respectively).

"The season starts in January and ends in mid-July. This means we ship organic new carrots every day within 12 hours from harvesting in 500 g, 750 g, 1 kg, 2 kg or 10 kg packets."
The company ships 60 tons of produce every day and can double the quantity if shipped in 10 kg crates.

"The aroma of our new carrots is unmistakeable. They are crunchy but, at the same time, their heart is tender. The sweetness, crunchiness and aroma of our carrots manage to arrive on the counter, as they are fresh. In the other European countries they only sell stocked produce and that is why our products are very much appreciated."

The Milana Giovanni commercial farm works with 350 hectares of land. "100 hectares are dedicated to carrots, which represent 70% of sales, followed by courgettes (22%), fennel and artichokes (3%) and round, bunch and cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelons, durum wheat and melons (5% in total)."
95% of the produce is packaged for the foreign markets, leaving only 5% to the domestic one.
