Krispijn van den Dries:

"Good prices for organic potatoes"

Organic table potatoes are doing well in the market this year. Van Vilsteren and Key and Van den Dries (VVKD) grow organic potatoes together on an area of 20 HA. The potatoes grown in the clay Flevopolder soil, were harvested in September and stored after that.

Krispijn van den Dries mentions that it was the plan to sell the potatoes after the turn of the year. "However, because of the increasing demand we are already supplying to Germany for the past couple of weeks. Unpacked on the lorry we have shipped at Euro 0.60 for 3 weeks now. The price is stable and good. The expectation is that after the turn of the year prices will increase because of the smaller harvest in North West Europe" Krispijn tells.

According to him the Netherlands remains behind with a market price of Euro 0.40 to Euro 0.45. "But eventually The Netherlands will have to follow suit in order to keep sufficient potatoes in stock. In France the price is even a little better at Euro 0.60 to Euro 0.65. Nevertheless, although yield is a little disappointing, growers are satisfied."
