US: Average produce prices up on last year

The average price per pound of freshproduce for the 52-week period leading up to October was higher than that forthe previous 52-week period. Sales of both fruit and vegetables were also up.

According to data from FreshLook Marketing,the average price per pound of fruit for the 52-week period ending on October 6rose by 4.4 percent compared to the previous 52-week period. The top seller inthe fruit category, berries, accounted for 18.4 percent of all fruit sales forthat time period, and sales for berries rose by 7.1 percent when compared tothe previous 52-week period.

Similarly, the average price for a pound ofvegetables rose by 3.6 percent when compared to the previous 52-week period.Lettuce was the largest seller, in terms of dollars, in the vegetable category,and total sales for vegetables rose by 7.0 percent when compared to theprevious 52-week period.
