Argentina: Severe controls in Misiones due to the HLB

As part of the preventive measures developed to prevent the entry of the Huanglongbing (HLB), a disease that affects citrus, into Argentina, the Senasa constantly runs border control in the province of Misiones.

As a result of these activities, from 2012 until September 2013, and upon the detection of a number of irregularities, 134 tonnes of fruit and vegetables were prevented from entering the province, 33 tonnes of which were citrus and 17 tonnes plants, 1.9 tonnes of which were citrus susceptible to the HLB.

In addition, 1,940 en-route cargo of citrus with some 28,000 tonnes were controlled, and 18 irregularities were detected. 65 tonnes were seized and 34 tonnes of citrus fruit were sent back to origin. 30 plants that lacked their source of origin documentation were destroyed.

Overall, in the mentioned period, more than 18 million people, 3.2 million private transport vehicles, 135,000 passengers and over 332,000 cargo transport were inspected.
