Spain: Andalusia expects record citrus campaign

According to a report from the Territorial Delegation of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment elaborated on the latest data provided by ICEX, Almeria's 58 citrus companies have exported 31 million kilos of oranges, mandarins and lemons so far this year; a 2.5% increase compared to the same period in 2012. From these sales, a total of 21 million Euro in revenue was made; close to 11% more than last year.

Oranges are the most exported citrus by Almeria. Their value has surpassed the 11.2 million Euro so far this year; 12.8% more than last season. The main destinations for Almeria's oranges are Italy, with 38.5%, and Germany, with 22.35% of all exports.

The fruit is also shipped to France, and to a lesser extent to Algeria, Romania, The Netherlands, Poland, Belgium and Russia. Almeria is Spain's ninth largest orange exporter, with a 1.3% share of the country's total.

Mandarin exports made a total of 3.7 million Euro in revenue, which is a 3.3% increase compared to 2012. The number one destination for this fruit is Germany, which imported 21.6% of the total, followed by Italy with 20% and by Poland, The Netherlands, France, Russia, Ukraine and Romania with smaller percentages. Almeria is Spain's eighth largest mandarin exporter, with a 0.7% market share.

Between January and August, the value of lemon exports surpassed the 5.3 million Euro; 8.6% more than in the same period of 2012. Germany was also the main destination for this citrus, with 30.7%, followed by Italy (17.6%) and Belgium (17.5%). Almeria is Spain's seventh largest exporter of lemons, with 1.7% of the total.
