Colour and size of Spanish citrus lacking

The sales of citrus are slow overall, says Toine van Hoof of FRS Holland from Venlo, the sales office of the Spanish citrus exporter Frutas Romu. "There's not one concrete reason for this. Whether it's due to the good weather or because the Spanish supply hasn't really got going yet. The volumes are behind due to the good weather in Spain and because the fruit isn't colouring enough. But this should fix itself when it gets a little colder. Thursday was the first cooler day and this is stimulating the colouring."

"On the other hand these transition weeks are traditionally problematic. There's not much overseas fruit arriving at the moment, but there is enough stored. Citrus arrived from Zimbabwe even after October 15, as no importing rights have to be paid for them," continues the importer. "The price level for Spanish mandarins is around 10/11 Euro and the small sizes are slightly cheaper and the price level of the good sizes are a little more friendly. For oranges in nets around 1.35/1.40 Euro is paid per 2 kg, depending on the size."
