Fabio Zanesco - VI.P Sales Manager

"Asia, a sort of open space for fruit and vegetable produce"

Fabio Zanesco (in the photo), Salers Manager for VI.P., l'Associazione delle Cooperative Ortofrutticole della Val Venosta, shares with FreshPlaza readers his impressions coming back from Asia Fruit Logistica.

"If compared to other international events, the numbers of exhibitors and visitors are obviously limited, but I must say that interest for the area is strong, not only from traditional exporters such as the US, New Zealand, Chile, France, etc. but also from less predictable areas such as Peru and Egypt, for example."

As regards VI.P, the sales manager comments that "we attended Asia Fresh Logistica not so much to find market opportunities on the Asian market, but rather to network and understand how other areas work and where companies expect to be in the next few years. From this point of view, Asia is definitely one of the most interesting areas for many exporters, both in the Northern and in the Southern hemisphere."

According to Fabio Zanesco, this tendency to develop commercial relations with Asia could have positive effects on the other markets: "We can consider this area as a sort of open space for fruit and vegetable produce, so there could be less competition for other markets closer to us. If China, USA, Chile, New Zealand and others find interesting opportunities and growing markets there, they won't put their pressure on Europe, North Africa and Middle East, areas which we are interested in and where we already have contacts. In general, the more the market grows, the more the share of consumers can be divided up, thus reducing the pressure on the main markets and facilitating the management of a positive business season with no overlaps."
