Asia’s fresh produce hub ready to roll

As Asia fruit Logistica and Asiafruit Congress prepare to open their doors at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong next week, visitors and exhibitors can expect to find a bigger show with even more to offer.

With almost 10 per cent more companies from over 20 per cent more countries exhibiting, the event is more international than ever before. A record 372 exhibitors from 37 different countries will take part in this year’s Asia fruit Logistica on 4-6 September, which will feature some 17 national pavilions.

Visitor numbers are also on course for another bumper year, with over 6,000 trade visitors from some 60 different countries expected to attend. Managing director of exhibition organiser Global Produce Events Gérald Lamusse emphasizes that it is the quality of these trade visitors that will once again define the success of the show.

“This year we again expect well over 80 per cent of our trade visitors to be closely involved in the purchasing and procurement decision-making process within their company,” says Lamusse.

Kicking off this year’s event, the Asiafruit Congress takes place on 3 September with a high-powered programme addressing the hot topics for the business in Asia, from investment to import demand.

Offering a mix of general and breakout sessions in a new full-day format, Asiafruit Congress features a range of high-profile speakers, including: Patrick Vizzone of National Australia Bank; Chen Shaopeng, president of Joyvio Group; Edward Zhu, CEO of CHIC Foods; and Joseph Cole, vice-president of Del Monte Fresh Produce Asia-Pacific.

Asiafruit Congress concludes on 3 September with a new joint Asiafruit Congress-Asia Fruit Logistica Welcome Reception. This must-attend gala cocktail event will also stage the launch of the inaugural Asia Fruit Awards. Presented by Asiafruit Magazine and Asia Fruit Logistica to recognise outstanding achievement in Asia’s fresh fruit and vegetable trade, the Asia Fruit Awards will be given in three categories – ‘Marketing Campaign of the Year’, ‘Importer of the Year’ and ‘Produce Retailer of the Year’.

Asia Fruit Logistica then opens its doors on 4-6 September, giving visitors and exhibitors even time do business with extended hours of 10:00-17:00hrs daily. In addition to capitalising on the additional marketing and networking opportunities, visitors can also attend a Business Forum of two information sessions per day on the show floor this year.

“Exhibitors and visitors should prepare to experience the incredible vitality, dynamism and opportunity that the Asian fresh produce trade has to offer, so that they can make the best use of it,” says Lamusse. “These qualities are reflected in all aspects of this year’s event, and we are launching lots of new and exciting things this year.”
