"It is precisely what happened to Crizia. Created by Alessandro Liverani and introduced on the market in 2000, it never gained momentum among the Italian varietal standards. The characteristics of the flesh of this white peach, which is harvested at the beginning of July in Romagna, are unique: it is not as smooth as Percoca peaches and it is red, not blood-red but with a uniform and rather attractive colour," explains Walther Faedi, manager of Forlì's CRA-FRF.
"This variety is interesting as young consumers like its taste. In fact, even when fully ripe, the flesh remains firm for a long period of time, it is red so it's rich in anthocyanins and it tastes great thanks to the balance between sweet and sour. It is also easy to eat because it does not make a juicy mess like other ripe peaches."
"With this type of flesh, producers can harvest the fruits when they are perfectly ripe and therefore when they have the best organoleptic qualities," concludes Walther Faedi.
