Soldive commences Spanish melon production

Soldive has begun harvesting yellow charentais melons in their Spanish growing region near Alicante. Harvesting in Spain will run through this month and last through June.

“The yellow charentais melons we grow in Spain are very tasty, and they have a good shelf life,” said Soldive's Audrey Brizard. Brix levels range from 13 to 16, and Brizard noted that their growing operation in Spain allows them to provide melons that meet their customers' needs.

“The infrastructure and equipment in station lets us adapt to the different types of packing requested by customers, whether it's wooden, plastic, carton or plastic,” said Brizard. This season, Soldive expects to harvest, pack and ship 6,000 tons of melons from their Spanish growing region of 250 hectares. Most of that production will go to the French market, but Brizard said that a growing percentage of the crop will go toward their efforts to expand more markets throughout the world.

“We have GlobalGAP certification and our own fleet of transport trucks to deliver the melons,” said Brizard. “With these melons, we'll serve the French market, but also the international market because we're also developing the export market.” Soldive has bought new trucks especially for their 50th birthday.
