First Greek watermelons on their way to PeDe

The first Greek Dumara melons were loaded on Tuesday and are expected to arrive on Friday at PeDe in Venlo. The melons are from Pantazis, one of the largest melon exporters in Greece. "The oblong Dumara melons are very sweet in flavour and are one of the most delicious melons. They weigh 6kg and upwards," says Lucien de Wit from PeDe.

The melons from Pantazia are exclusive to PeDe in Venlo this year. Pantazis is the largest Dumara producer/exporter in Greece. "Due to having a portion of production grown in tunnels, they are able to put these deliciously sweet melons on the market a few weeks earlier than other exporters. The demand is very good at the moment and due to the small supply of watermelons, the price is very good for the producer," says Lucien.

"Less melons were planted again this year in Greece. As a result, people are hoping that the prices will remain stable. The volumes available at the moment are not big but will increase in the coming weeks. Starting from the end of next week, PeDe will be receiving cars daily filled with these melons. It is also possible to deliver the loads in these cars direct to the customers." concludes the importer.
