"Netherlands: "Organic products seem to be reasonably recession-proof"

The organic products seems to be reasonably recession-proof in the supermarkets. The ING Vraag van Vandaag (a poll among around 46,200 respondents a day) shows that sales haven't decreased any less than a year ago. Of the respondents, 24% indicates that they buy organic products more often, whereas 22% say they purchase less organic products in the supermarket.

The often more expensive A-brands seem to be losing ground. In the supermarket 41% of the consumers now buy less A-brands than they did last year. A group of 6% now chooses A-brands more often, while the average increase in price is 3%, foods are 3.8% more expensive than a year ago. Consumers notice this in the supermarket. It seems this is why they are opting to choose the more expensive A-brands less often.
