Brazilian fruit goes to Berlin

The 'Brazilian Fruit' project, developed since 1998 in partnership by Ibraf (Brazilian Fruit Institute) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), with the purpose of promoting the quality and diversity of Brazilian fresh and processed fruit, will participate at 2013 edition of Fruit Logistica - an event considered the largest and most important gathering of world business opportunities for the fresh produce.

The fair will be held in Berlin, Germany, between the 6th and February 8, and will feature more than 2,400 exhibitors from around the world. The Brazilian Fruit stand with 300 m² will present the product and services of the following companies: Agrícola Famosa, Caliman/HLB, Fermac Cargo, GBI, GSI/Daehler, Itacitus, ITEP, Rigesa, Salute, UGBP and Central Exportaminas that will take a mission with 30 businessmen of the State of Minas Gerais.

"The Fruit Logistica is the meeting point for all industry players, so Ibraf has been supporting since 2003 the intense participation of Brazilian companies, in order to show this important event all the diversity and quality of our products," said Luciana Pacheco - Brazilian Fruit project manager.

Companies
This is the 4th consecutive participation year of Exportaminas to present the products and companies from the State for this important event. That is the case of Abanorte which will attend the event, spreading the fruits of Northern Minas such as banana, mango and limes, through Jaíba Project. The Ocemg System, which works with monitoring and promotion of Minas Gerais cooperatives, also will be in Fruit Logistica representing five mining cooperatives, as well as Ceasa Minas (Central Supply Minas Gerais S/A), which acts as the marketing center horticulture, cereals and processed food products and non-food.

The HLB Tropical Food that has been operating for 24 years as an importer and distributor of tropical fruit will participate in the Brazilian Fruit stand with the Brazilian company Caliman Agricola its partner in the supply of Papaya Golden. “We are happy to participate in this year’s Fruit Logistica, as we have been for almost 20 years and we look forward to many more years to come.” said Homero Levy de Barros, director of HBL.

The company GSI / Daehler, producer of Papaya in the State of Espirito Santo will attend the event for the first time. "Undoubtedly, an international event as important as the Fruit Logistica, enables approaching new markets and consolidating strong, partnerships” commented Marius Daehler, the company’s director .

Exports in 2012
In 2012 were exported 693,000 tonnes of fresh fruit from Brazil to 50 countries. The main fruits were: melon, mango, lime, grape, banana, papaya and apple. Germany is in 5th place in the ranking of country buyers, with 12 000 tonnes exported directly to the country in 2012. The main purchasing country is the Netherlands, which acts as a distribution center for re-export throughout Europe, followed by the UK, Spain and the USA.
