New grape tomato packaging for Master's Touch

Master’s Touch, which ships produce out of Baja, Mexico, has created a new package for its grape tomatoes: a 10.5oz resealable pouch bag, which will be featured in organic and conventional at the Viva Fresh Expo. At the time of the show the company may also be showcasing some watermelon and possibly organic table grapes. “Our main focus will be getting this new grape tomato package to the forefront,” said Dino Iacovino of Masters Touch. It will be available in the USA and Canada.

Longer shelf-life
The new package is an improvement over the 12.1 clamshell pack – including a longer shelflife (10 – 15 days) due to improved ventilation. Shipments will be done in 20 bags per box instead of 12 clamshells per box. Iacovino says it’s easy to display and will come with a special display rack if retailers choose. “It’s a better all around packaging idea. It’s less money on freight; there are 100 cases per pallet with 20 bags instead of 156 per pallet with only 12 clams.” It comes with a two-day lead time, packed to order, which Iacovino says is better for the retailer because they’ll receive produce specific to their needs. “We want to keep it moving and build it up more so we’re bringing it to Viva Fresh.”

Master’s Touch has a full line of organic tomatoes, and conventional tomatoes. In May the company will be starting an organic table grape program. This will be Master's Touch first time at the Viva Fresh Expo. “We’re hoping that we’ll get some more exposure from the retailers and wholesalers in and around that area, so we can build more business and more goodwill.”
