NZ: Award for Compac's Small Fruit Sorter

New Zealand based Compac's Small Fruit Sorter has been recognised with a highly commended at the 2012 Bayer Innovators Awards in the Environment and Agritech category. The Compac Small Fruit Sorter uses the company's market leading InVision system to sort cherries based on shape, size, diameter, color, surface blemishes, firmness and bruising.

Compac Sorting Equipment recently closed a deal to supply what will be one of the world’s largest electronic cherry sorters, for California cherry packer Prima Frutta. The sorter will sort 42,000 cherries a minute.

"This is a real honour for Compac to be recognised in such a competitive competition," says Nigel Beach, Compac’s R&D Manager. "It’s recognition of not only a great product which we’ve developed but also the development processes and commercialisation methods we employ. It confirms for us that we’re able to successfully take customer needs and wants and turn these insights into commercial solutions which improve our customers’ businesses."

The Compac Small Fruit Sorter is Compac’s newest electronic sorter, designed to sort cherries and other small fruit types such as cherry and grape tomatoes. The sorter uses the company’s market leading InVision system to grade fruit based on shape, size, diameter, color, surface blemishes, firmness and bruising. Since the product’s launch in 2011, 66 lanes of the electronic Small Fruit Sorter have been supplied to cherry packers operating in New Zealand, South America and the United States.
