Argentina: significant increase in fruit exports
Tholen – Between January and February fruit exports from Argentina increased 21% in quantity and 30% in value with respect to the same period in 2006. Apple exports were 38,699 tons (US$20,269,000) representing an increase of 59% both in value and volume. The main destinations were: The Netherlands, 6643 tons; Brazil, 6142 tons; Russia, 5312 tons; Belgium, 5012 tons and Sweden, 2378 tons.
The export of pears amounted to 160,957 tons (US$89,576,000) representing an increase of 47% in value and 30% in volume. The main destinations were: Russia, 33,724 tons; Italy, 29,942 tons; US, 27,239 tons; Brazil, 19,361 tons; The Netherlands, 17,233 tons; and Belgium, 11,595 tons among others. Grape exports were 43,390 tons (US$ 43,537,000), with the main destinations Belgium, 12,364 tons; Russia, 10,689 tons; The Netherlands, 8317 tons; Brazil, 2355 tons; Germany, 1678 tons and Spain, 1001.
