Russia: increased import of citrus fruit
Warsaw - According to www.webagro.net, Russia imported around 60% more food products and agricultural goods in January, than in the same period of 2006. The Russian Ministry for Economic Development and Trade recently published a report about the economical situation in January and February of the present year. In January, Russia imported 1,6 times more food products and agricultural products than a year ago (based on value). According to the data of ministry, the cost of the food product import to Russia grew by 13,5% during January 2006, and up to 23,9% for the entire 2006.
The group of products which noticed the largest growth of import are: meat, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, sugar, fish, coffee and citrus fruits. In case of citrus fruits, the value of import rose approximately 1,4 times. David Kalikhman, director general of Globus Group, Russian company involved in import of fruits and vegetables, counts that for the real reasons of an increased deliveries of citrus fruits - in terms of money – one should look in the increasing of the minimally permissible customs cost, but not in the physical increase of deliveries.
